"He who asks nothing, learns nothing." (Thomas Fuller)
We are now living at the turning point of the era, and such transitions always require paradigm shifts, including, or, first of all, in education.
Yes, now is the age of digital technologies; Artificial Intelligence AI is actively entering life; it is impossible to imagine modern society without smartphones and tablets.
Yes, technologies are moving forward. But, is all this necessary in such a volume for children? Maybe an overload of information, especially visual, gives nothing but superficial ideas?!
They learn to absorb tons of visual garbage, without discussing anything with anyone and without asking anyone about anything, remaining alone with a phone or tablet.
And what can children actually do with their hands? Experience shows that many by the age of 10 have not even mastered the skill of using scissors. But, there is a very simple thing, long proven by neurobiologists: fine motor skills, skills of working with various materials activate the work of the brain. Most of the skills of modern children are reduced to "move your finger" (as it was once written in one of the instructions).
Endless scrolling of pictures and short videos, in fact, teaches little. A simple example, you sat for 30 minutes - scrolled through the feed in the same FB, even liked someone, made reposts. But ask you in half an hour, and what was discussed in the videos and posts? It's good if you remember at least two and can formulate the topics.
Why am I getting at this, such a long introduction?!
Our children, without receiving the skill "how to learn", will ultimately not develop it. And this is a very important skill and it will be useful in life. Only through self-development, through the ability to create something yourself, can you really learn and learn something, and thus learn. Most activities with children in the modern world come down to a show. And all you need is to get a momentary effect, and in response get a loud: "Wow?! How cool was that?!"
And what was it all about? Why did this or that experiment or trick work? How did people learn to do something? Very often, it is not interesting at all.
Why does this happen?
The human mind must work. Brain cells must function. And for this, you yourself must learn to talk about complex things in an interesting way, but in simple words, so that it becomes clear. And when it becomes clear, then there is interest and a desire to learn more. And this is the only way to form a learning skill. And it always comes from a dialogue between a child and a teacher (in any form, this is where both AI and the Internet will be great help). But you also need to learn this.
These are the principles I adhere to, leading a variety of clubs and courses at Cherdachok (on historical and biological topics).
We are learning to learn to know the world (it turned out to be butter, but this is a very accurate expression). And this always happens through a dialogue with children (children ask questions, and enter into a dialogue with me, and look for answers to both my questions and their own) and clarity is very important (we are in a museum!). And we always have a practical part: when information is consolidated in drawings, crafts, models, in their books, then it remains in memory.
And the Cherdachok Museum is opening registration for the next academic year:
Some courses and clubs will be repeated, like our main course in cultural studies for children.
And in the new academic year, a couple of completely new courses will be opened. Follow our posts in the Karmiel for Children group and on the Little Attic page
But our groups are small. Maximum 6 people, so do not put off registration for later, there may not be any places left.
You can find us in Karmiel on Hativat Ivtakh Street 11.
Write. Call. Come. And you will see everything with your own eyes.
