What is a museum?!
And why do we need one at all?!
Let's try to figure it out.
A museum is not just a collection, collecting some objects and distributing them on shelves or floors.
A museum is an intermediary through which communities can talk to each other, even without language barriers.
It is very important to show in childhood that a museum is also a social institution of memory, which begins to work with everyone who comes to it. And the museum teaches interaction with heritage and promotes its understanding.
Children are a very important audience for the present and the main audiences for future museums; they are inspirers of change and constant development, asking their "children's questions" and showing curiosity.
A museum also teaches informal contacts, mutual respect and recognition of the values of other cultures, tolerance; at the same time, the museum does not try to simplify everything, but shows the world in its fullness, complexity and diversity.
These are the principles I tried to adhere to when creating my museum in Karmiel. In addition, the Cherdachok Museum (that's the name of my museum) is also interactive, that is, when you come to it, you can not only "look with your eyes", but also really come into contact with history.
Remembering what an incredible impression my first visit to the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum made on me as a child; how my children ran with incredible desire to lectures (and this was in elementary school!) to the Pushkin Museum; I really wanted to give the children from Karmiel a similar opportunity.
Even though our museum is not large (and, of course, there is no way to compete with the museum giants of Haifa or Tel Aviv, and such a goal was not set!), but the intimacy of the environment, friendliness and openness, flexibility of programs, the opportunity to study in an unusual place, in a creative environment - all this, I assure you, will be remembered by both children and adults. And children's delighted eyes and passion for the process are worth a lot; (That's why I like to photograph the process itself, not the result!)
